Follow these instructions to install Kodi and set it to auto-boot into Kodi, after Raspbian has loaded.
1. Install Raspbian stretch via NOOBS 2. sudo apt update 3. sudo apt install kodi 4. sudo nano /etc/init.d/kodi 5. Content for above file: Gist 6. sudo nano /etc/default/kodi 7. Content for above file: Gist 8. sudo chmod a+x /etc/init.d/kodi 9. sudo update-rc.d kodi defaults 10. sudo nano /boot/config.txt 11. Add gpu_mem=256 to the bottom line of the file, save & exit. (This is for RPI3, previous Pis may need less gpu_mem) 12. sudo reboot
You should be greeted with a fresh Kodi instance after the Pi has powercycled
N.B. – Kodi, when installed in this method will have the bare minimum required to run, it is unlikely to come with things such as PVR, these must be installed separately but are out of scope for my purposes and so not covered here.
